UTP escapes from Odisha hospital during treatment

Days after two under-trial prisoners (UTP) escaped from the Titilagarh jail in Bolangir, another UTP who was undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital in Sundargarh, managed to give a slip to the jail authorities on Monday.   

The escaped UTP identified as Arjun Munda of Bhasma police limits was arrested in connection with a murder case and lodged in Sundargarh jail. 

Arjun was admitted to the district headquarters hospital on March 29 for treatment. 

Following the incident, Sadar SDPO, Himanshu Behera along with the IIC of the Town Police Station visited the district jail and held discussions with the jailor. 

Such an incident has raised questions about security arrangements at the hospital. 

No reactions were received from the jail authorities or the police.
