UPI server down: SBI users complain glitch in PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm transactions

Payment gateway UPI (Unified Payment Interface) has been down in Odisha for the last 2-3 days, reports said. Thousands of users have been facing problems and are unable to carry out any kind of transactions or make online payments.

Transactions using payment services like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm are getting declined due to the UPI server being down. Customers of several banks, especially of SBI Bank are facing the inconvenience, it was learnt.

Users have not been able to make payments for the past 48 hours and more. Payments are stuck and people are not even able to check their balance. Many customers complained that money was being debited from their accounts but not credited to the accounts of the people they were sending.

In an urgent announcement, the State Bank of India attributed the interruption in service to technology upgradation.  

"We have undertaken technology upgradation, due to which you may face intermittent fluctuations in Bank's UPI services. We deeply regret the inconvenience which may be causing to you. We will update soon," the bank said.  

However, the server issue, especially during the festive season has triggered outrage among netizens who took to social media to express their outrage.

“Is it just me or anyone else facing issues with Gpay, PhonePe. I’m not even able to check my balance,” shared a user.

Another user wrote, “Why are these UPI servers still down… How dependant we as a community have been on these payment systems. Bring it up ASAP.”

“Is the entire UPI down? Looks like all banks got the issue rn. Being used to it very much, it’s a struggle for everyone,” commented a third user.
