Unsafe Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi to be demolished

The Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi is beyond economic repair and the building is not safe for habitation. Hence, the building is going to be demolished at the earliest. Such directions have been issued by the Odisha government.

Earlier, the Works Department had conducted a structural safety audit of three bhawans of Odisha government in Delhi- Odisha Bhawan, Odisha Niwas and Odisha Sadan. In 2022, the OSD chief engineer reported that the Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi in unsafe for long term use and recommended for demolition of the building within 2 to 3 years.

The Chief Engineer-cum Additional Secretary (Works Department) on April 28, 2024 reported that the Odisha Bhawan is beyond economic repair and the building is not safe for habitation.

After careful consideration of the above recommendations and facts, the Home Department (Odisha) has declared the Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi unsafe for habitation and has authorised the Works Department for its dismantlement.
