In anticipation of the scorching summer, the Odisha government assured the residents on Friday that electricity will not be disconnected due to unpaid bills.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced that no customer will face power disconnection for pending dues. The directive also restricts any unauthorised power outages.
Besides, Minister Pujari emphasised the urgent need for any non-functional tubewells to be operational within 48 hours, ensuring no disruption to water supply. Plans are in progress to establish shelters for domestic and stray animals, safeguarding their well-being during the intense heat.
“Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has already issued an advisory for increasing heat. Do’s and don’ts have been mentioned therein. We have ordered to repair the defunct tube wells within 48 hours. Provisions are being made for shelter and drinking water for abandoned animals,” Revenue Minister Pujari said while briefing to media.
Furthermore, Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra held a review to address potential water shortages. Authorities are directed to prioritise addressing the drinking water crisis that often arises during peak summer. The government is committed to ensuring sufficient drinking water supply in urban areas, with a directive that any complaints regarding shortages be resolved within 24 hours.
“PHEO and WATCO offices will remain open round-the-clock and any complaint made will be addressed immediately. In case repair is not immediately possible, drinking water will be supplied through tankers,” the Urban Development Minister stated.
Departments responsible for managing heat wave preparations have been urged to strictly follow all issued directives to mitigate the summer challenges effectively.
Overall, this initiative underscores the commitment of Odisha’s government to safeguard its citizens and animal life against the adverse effects of extreme temperatures.
