Unidentified woman’s body found in Keonjhar, suspected to be that of missing Bhubaneswar constable

A woman’s body has been recovered near Ghatagaon in Keonjhar. It is suspected to be that of Subhamitra Sahu, the woman traffic constable missing from the state capital. However, the police have not yet given any official confirmation. The police, along with a scientific team, have recovered the body, and the identification process is underway.

Sources reported that the body was found in a secluded area near Ghatagaon and was immediately secured by police. Forensic and scientific teams have been pressed into service to assist in confirming the victim’s identity. However, no official confirmation has yet been made linking the discovery directly to the missing constable.

Commissionerate Police officials said the family of Shubhamitra, a native of Paradip posted with Bhubaneswar traffic police, has been informed, and efforts are on to establish conclusive identification.

Prime Suspect Under Interrogation

Meanwhile, suspicion continues to centre on Deepak Rout, a clerk posted in the Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner’s Office, who is also reported to have been in a relationship with Shubhamitra. He was detained this morning for questioning after multiple leads connected him to her disappearance.

Evidence indicates that Rout had travelled with the constable in a car towards Keonjhar’s Tarini temple, with a photograph of the journey surfacing and now in possession of investigators.

OTV also accessed images of the vehicle in which both were reportedly seen together. Subsequent checks of CCTV and toll gate footage reportedly confirmed Rout was driving the car in which Shubhamitra was last seen.

Police Interrogation On

Shubhamitra’s father had earlier lodged a formal complaint at the Capital Police Station, naming Rout as a suspect. Family members repeatedly urged police to interrogate him, voicing frustration over delays in the probe.

Police have yet to issue an official statement confirming the link between the recovered body and the missing constable, but the sequence of developments has taken a fresh turn from being a missing person case to a murder angle.
