An undertrial prisoner died under mysterious circumstances near Goshala along Bargarh-Sambalpur road while he was being taken to Rourkela from Bargarh along with 12 others by Raghunathpali police on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Anirban Karji. However, under which circumstances Anirban died is yet to be ascertained. 

Anirban was rushed to Burla hospital after his condition deteriorated. However, doctors declared him brought dead. Post-mortem of the body will be done at the hospital to ascertain the cause of the death, informed sources.

Meanwhile, another undertrial prisoner fell sick and he has been admitted to Burla hospital.

As per reports, all the 13 undertrial prisoners are from West Bengal. They were arrested in connection with a cheating case. They were lodged in Bargarh jail since September 24.

As per sources, all the undertrial prisoners had got bail and they were being taken by police to Rourkela in connection with another case.

“The incident happened when the undertrial prisoners were being taken from Bargarh to Rourkela in connection with a cheating case,” informed Rourkela SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
