In yet another instance of serious lapses in security measures, two under-trial prisoners (UTPs) in Odisha have escaped from prison. This time, the incident has been reported from Bhawanipatna jail in Kalahandi district.

Sources said that both the UTPs escaped from the jail last night. The matter came to light in the early hours of Sunday.
The UTPs have been identified as Sikandar Jal and Nilamani Majhi. Both of them were arrested in connection with POCSO case and were lodged in Bhawanipatna jail.

It is suspected that both UTPs escaped from the jail after scaling the boundary wall of the jail. The incident has raised eyebrows as there were watchtowers to keep a strict vigil at the prison.

In March, two under-trial prisoners (UTPs), who were arrested on charges of murder, had reportedly escaped from Titilagarh sub-jail.     The jail warder was subsequently suspended on the charges of dereliction of duty in connection with the incident.

Later, one of the UTP was arrested by police after a massive search operation.
