Two students were critically injured after a slab fell on them while they were cleaning an abandoned toilet of Urdu primary school at Patana in Keonjhar district on Monday.

As per reports, a lady teacher was allegedly getting the toilet cleaned with the help of some students. A portion of the roof of the dilapidated toilet collapsed on two of the students. They were critically injured and rushed to Patana Community Health Centre (CHC).

The injured students identified as Santosh Karua and Raja Nayak, both of Class-V, were later referred to the district headquarters hospital.

Tension prevailed at the site for some time following the incident. The mother of an injured student expressed worries over the incident. “My son said he was cleaning the toilet and a portion of the roof fell on him,” she sobbed.

Sudhansu Kumar Paikaray, panchayat executive officer of Barpanguda panchayat, rushed to the spot following a directive from the Patana BDO and brought the injured students in an ambulance to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital (DHH).
