Two persons drowned to death on Tuesday in separate incidents in Odisha. As per reports, a 13-year-old boy identified as Miku Barik, son of Brundaban Barik of Beruda village in Jajpur was doing ablutions at Jhala ghat of Kharashroata River in the morning. Accidentally, his legs slipped into a small gorge in the river. He was swept away by currents. 

Hours later, some people launched a search operation and rescued him. The boy was taken to the district headquarters hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Satyananda Bhadra, a resident of Beruda said, “The boy was inside the river, but all of a sudden his legs slipped into a small gorge. No one was there at the place. His family members and local residents searched the river and found him.  He was taken to the hospital but he was dead by then.”

Another incident was reported from Banitia village of Bhadrak. Gobinda Mahakud of the village was cycling to his destination in the morning. He was crossing Barada Bridge when he accidentally lost his balance and fell off the bridge into the river.

Later, local people rescued him and rushed him to the district headquarters hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The Bhadrak Rural Police has started an investigation into the death.
