Local people were effusive in their praise towards the bravery of the two cowherds who risked their own lives to save the lives of the women and child who were being swept away due to the flash flood in the river.

Two cowherds at Kanhuguda village under Kashipur block in Rayagada district turned saviours as they rescued as many as 11 persons including 10 women and a child during a flash flood in a river on Friday.

The cowherds have been identified as Pradeep Majhi and Nabi Majhi.

As per reports, as many as 10 women had gone to attend a meeting in a school which is located on the other side of the river. However, while returning to their villages by crossing the river, a flash flood came in the river. The women had swept away to a distance of around 200 metres in the swift current.

The two cowherds were grazing their cattle in the nearby area. After hearing the screams of the women, both of them jumped into the flooded river without thinking about their safety to save the lives of the women and the child. They tried their best to save the women. Later, local people joined the rescue operation and the lives of all the women and the infant were saved.

Local people were effusive in their praise towards the bravery of the two cowherds who risked their own lives to save the lives of the women and child who were being swept away due to the flash flood in the river.

The health condition of all the rescued persons is reportedly stable.

As per reports, due to the absence of a bridge, hundreds of local residents are forced to cross the river in the area in dangerous conditions on a daily basis.

However, no comments from the district administration could be obtained in this regard.
