The infighting in the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) yet once again came to the fore on Monday after a tussle ensued between two groups during the party’s ‘Jan Sampark Padyatra’ at Salepur in Cuttack.

Today local BJD leader Himanshu Mohanty and his supporters took out a procession, holding a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and a banner from Saheswari temple in Salepur. As they reached College Square near Salepur Bazar, they were confronted by some supporters of MLA Prashant Behera.

The scene soon took an ugly turn as both sides engaged in a scuffle. The situation came to such a pass that police had to intervene to bring the situation under control.

When asked, Mohanty said the MLA’s supporters are getting afraid of his growing popularity.

“We belong to the same party. But it seems to me that Prashant Behera’s goondaraj is ruling the roost here. And his supporters are baying for my blood,” alleged Mohanty.

On the other hand, BJD’s block youth president Sanjeeb Kumar Dash refuted the allegations of any tussle taking place between the two groups.

“As per my knowledge, there is a guideline as to who can take out padayatra. I hope the party will take action in this regard,” said Dash.
