Baliguda SDPO with the seized country-made guns
In a major crackdown, the Baliguda police seized 127 kilograms of ganja along with five country-made guns during a raid on illegal activities in the area. Two accused, identified as Balia Pradhan and Sujan Pradhan of Tilori Panchayat, were arrested in connection with the case.
According to police, the duo had been involved in the illegal trade of ganja and country-made firearms for a long time in Kandhamal district. The seizure has once again highlighted the deep nexus between narcotics smuggling and the circulation of illegal weapons in the region.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to trace the network and identify others linked to the racket.
“We had received information through secret sources that some people were involved in illegal arms manufacturing. Based on the information, we intensified our raid under ‘Operation Prahar’ and made the recovery. We have recovered around 5 country-made weapons. The accused were also involved in ganja smuggling and around 127kg of ganja has also been seized,” informed Baliguda SDPO Ramendra Prasad.
“We have arrested two persons in this connection. These two were basically involved in manufacturing the illegal arms and supply them to criminals and dacoits, ganja mafia and poachers. They also had links with ganja mafia and others involved in wildlife violence,” he added.
