The driver of a truck was charred to death after he rear-ended another truck loaded with steel sheets on National Highway 49 near Mahuladiha under Keonjhar district on Friday morning.

As per reports, the mishap occurred in the wee hours of Friday.

After the mishap, the police and firefighters reached the spot and doused the fire. They later sent the body of the driver for autopsy. The identity of the victim has not been ascertained yet.

Narrating the mishap, Hrudananda Mohant, an eyewitness said, “A truck was broken down on the side of the road, while another truck rammed into it from behind. The second truck caught fire in which the driver was also charred to death.”

However, the driver whose truck was hit from behind denied being stationary at the moment of mishap. “I was moving when he rammed me from behind. After hitting me the truck went ahead and stop after a while. I got down and saw diesel leaking from the tank which immediately caught fire because of heat and friction,” he said.

“The driver of the truck was stuck inside the cabin and died in the fire,” he added.
