Crossing a warning shot across his bow at the Odisha government, Sundargarh MP and veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jual Oram on Sunday took a strong exception to the former’s ‘adamant’ stand on the recent Cabinet nod to the ‘tribal land transfer and sale’ and subsequent withholding of the decision.

Speaking to the media, the BJP leader warned, “The state government is playing with fire by trying to tamper with the existing law of the tribal land sale and transfer. The state government should take the issue of the tribals seriously.”

The former Union Minister of Tribal Affairs demanded that the government should bring out its Cabinet decision on the issue through a gazette notification.

“The Cabinet decision should be terminated by the Cabinet itself. The government should not fool us by sending the Cabinet decision to the Tribal Advisory Committee. Tribals know what is being done to them,” Oram observed, further warning that the government will get a betting reply from the tribals at the proper time.

The Odisha government should scrap the Cabinet decision and publish it in the gazette notification, he added.

Notably, the issue created a ruckus during the Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly, repeatedly disrupting the proceedings of the House and leading to adjournments with the Opposition clamouring for its scrapping.
