Trap cameras installed in Odisha’s Sundargarh to track suspected tiger movement from Chhattisgarh
The Odisha Forest Department officials in Sundargarh district have stepped up monitoring after locals reported spotting a tiger near Lefripara area.
According to villagers, the big cat is suspected to have wandered in from neighbouring Chhattisgarh and may be roaming in the nearby forest. The sighting has created panic among residents, prompting immediate action from the authorities.
To verify the claims and track the animal’s movements, forest officials have set up trap cameras at various strategic points in the jungle. These cameras will help capture images or videos, confirming the tiger’s presence and assessing its behaviour.
In the meantime, villagers have been strongly advised to avoid entering the forest area for their own safety.
Adding to the concern, a photograph allegedly showing the tiger has gone viral on social media. However, the Forest Department has not yet verified the authenticity of the image, stating that it could be misleading.
Officials emphasised that the measures are precautionary and aimed at ensuring the safety of both the public and the animal. Monitoring will continue until the situation is clarified, and necessary steps will be taken if the tiger is confirmed to be in the area.
