An unfortunate incident unfolded in Raibandha village under Badagada police station limits in Ganjam district, where a minor girl died after her family failed to realise she had been bitten by a venomous snake.

According to reports, on Tuesday night, the girl, a class 3 student, suddenly screamed while sleeping alongside her family. When they woke up, a snake was spotted inside the house. Relatives chased the reptile out but were unaware that it had already bitten the child. Believing she was safe, the family went back to sleep.

Family Discovers Death Next Morning

On Wednesday morning, the girl did not wake up. Alarmed, the family rushed her to the Badagada Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her dead on arrival and found snakebite marks near her ear.

After being informed by the hospital authorities, Badagada Police reached the spot, seized the body, and sent it for autopsy.

Police Investigation Underway

As of the last reports, police have registered a case and initiated further investigation. Preliminary inquiry confirmed that the girl was bitten at night and that the family members had unknowingly neglected the injury after driving out the snake.

The body has been preserved for post-mortem examination, and the case file will be updated after medical confirmation.

Similar Death In Gajapati

In a separate case of snakebite reported last Friday, a college student died in Dakarpanka village under Adaba police limits in Gajapati district.

The victim, identified as Gurubada Raita, a first-year science student of Hill Top College, Mohana, was bitten in his sleep. Initially taken to a local herbal healer, his condition worsened, forcing relatives to shift him to R. Udayagiri Hospital.

Doctors referred him to Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital in Paralakhemundi, but he died en route.
