In a tragic incident, four persons including a seven-year-old boy died of asphyxiation at a brick kiln near Kamalanga under Kantabania police limits in Dhenkanal district on Saturday.

As per initial reports, all the deceased were asleep when the incident occurred. The matter came to light on Saturday morning. All of them were rushed to a nursing home where the doctors declared them dead.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently two labourers had died in a similar fashion at an illegal brick kiln prompting the administration to swing into action.

Sources said that the brick kilns are located along Bramhani river in Kalamanga area. But a complete check has not been possible due to lack of action on the part of the district administration and police as all such units are mushrooming right under their nose.

Meanwhile, senior police officials have rushed to the spot and have started an investigation into the incident.
