Traffic snarl on Bangriposi ghat in Mayurbhanj: Restriction imposed on movement of heavy vehicles
A day after OTV reported about the problems being faced by people as hundreds of trucks were stranded on both sides of Bangriposi ghat in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj, the district administration on Tuesday swung into action and imposed restrictions on movement of heavy vehicles on the connecting National Highway (NH) from Bangriposi to Bisoi.
The district administration has directed the IICs of Bangriposi and Bisoi police stations to deploy adequate police on either side of the ghat to control the movement of heavy vehicles.
“…deploy adequate police personnel on either side of the ghat to control the movement of heavy vehicles alternatively from Bangriposi to Bisoi and Bisoi to Bangriposi in one & half hour gap with effect from 01.10.2024 from 6 am to round the clock until further order,” the notification read.
“The vehicles will be parked at the left side of the road on both ends of the ghat,” the notification stated.
Notably, the breakdown of a heavy vehicle led to traffic snarls on Bangriposi ghat with hundreds of trucks carrying essential commodities being stranded on both sides of the road for around four days.
The trucks were stranded for as long as 17 km on both sides, cutting the ghat from the rest of the world.
With no water facilities on the ghat, the truck drivers were going through a harrowing time. On the other hand, lack of network connectivity on the ghat further worsened the situation.
