The Unit I market on which the entire Capital city depends for its daily need articles including vegetables, will remain closed for the next three days.

The traders have shut their shops citing that their demands are yet to be fulfilled.

Their demands reportedly include a parking facility, drainage system, and eviction of encroachments among others.

Today, the members of the Rajadhani Dainika Hata Byabasayee Sangha gheraoed the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) office. Later, a delegation of the association had a discussion with the Commissioner. However, the meeting ended without cutting any ice between the protestors and the civic body. After the meeting remained inconclusive, the traders decided to close their shops for four days including Friday.

It is feared that the decision of the association may have a knock-on effect on the city dwellers.

“Today, the commissioner asked us to keep our vehicles in the multi-storeyed parking facility on the other side of the road. The commissioner also said that the customers coming to the market would also park their vehicles in the same facility. You tell me, is it possible? To go to the suggested facility, one has to go either via AG Square or Raj Mahal Square. Why should our customers go there, park their vehicles paying parking fees, and return to us on foot?” said a miffed trader.
