Tortured by sons and daughters-in-law, elderly couple seeks shelter in old-age home in Mayurbhanj

In a land known for revering its elderly, a shame has emerged in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. An elderly couple, harassed, tortured, and thrown out of their house by their sons and daughters-in-law, are seeking shelter in an old-age home.

The heart-wrenching video shows the elderly couple begging the officials at an Aashram to save them and shelter them. Despite making their two sons well-educated and respectable in society, they have nowhere to go now, forced to seek shelter in an Aashram.

“I don’t have the heart to go back. Rather I prefer to die in an Aashram. I educated them and made them eligible to earn. Now, we have become a burden for them,” shared the elderly man Arabind Sahu.

Similarly, the elderly woman Premalata Sahu said, “They don’t even bother to take care of us. We fear them and don’t even ask for money for our daily needs. Still, they torture us as if we are a burden for them.”

As per reports, the two sons and their daughters-in-law allegedly inflicted mental and physical torture on the couple. Unable to bear the continuous torture, the couple was seen wandering around before seeking shelter in an old-age home.

“They are hurt. Their sons and daughters-in-law have severely tortured them. Because of the continuous torture, they are not willing to return home. So, we are trying to rehabilitate them in a Dharmasala,” said a well-wisher and member of Narayan Seva Sangha.

On the other hand, the couple’s elder son refuted the allegations and said that they had left the house claiming to go to the hospital.
