Three critical in fresh firecracker explosion in Odisha’s Nayagarh

A firecracker explosion rocked Krushnapalli village under Gania police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, leaving three persons critically injured on Sunday.

The injured have been identified as Achyuta Pradhan, Geeta Pradhan, and Bahadur Pradhan.

All three victims were rushed to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, Geeta was later shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.

According to reports, the explosion occurred in the afternoon while firecrackers were being illegally manufactured inside a local poultry farm. The blast was so powerful that it damaged a nearby asbestos-roofed house, causing parts of the wall to collapse.

Police have reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. This marks yet another firecracker-related explosion in the district within a span of a few months, raising serious safety concerns.

“As it started raining, I went to cover the farm. But, I sustained injuries in the explosion. I was not sure, whether they have stored firecrackers inside the farm,” said Bahadur Pradhan, a victim.

“The lady sustained serious injuries in the blast. Her left hand has been amputated,” said Dr Pitabasa Nayak, Nayagarh DHH.

Madan Mohan Pradhan, Daspalla SDPO said, “We have launched a detailed investigation into the matter. Necessary action will be taken after completion of the probe.”
