In a tragic incident, three college students drowned while taking bath in Nalia river at Langudi under Bhadrak Rural police limits on Tuesday.

Two other students were injured in the mishap and discharged from the hospital after preliminary treatment.

As per reports, all five were students of Charampa College in Bhadrak.

While the identities of the students are yet to be ascertained, they were said to be from Langudi area.

Sources said they were bathing in the river when they suddenly started drowning. And all of them went deep into the water while trying to save each other.

Following the mishap, the firefighters were called in and they rushed the five to Bhadrak hospital where the doctors pronounced three of them dead. The remaining two students were discharged after first aid.

“We were at the temple when we received a call that they (the deceased) have drowned in the Nalia river gorge. We rushed to the spot, but by then they had already shifted them to the hospital in an ambulance,” said a relative of one of the deceased.

Dr PK Khara from Bhadrak Hospital said, “We received three of them dead at the hospital. Their post-mortem will be conducted and the exact cause will be ascertained after that."
