Odisha Congress hits street in Bhubaneswar, demands action

Hundreds of Congress workers assembled at the party's headquarters in Bhubaneswar to condemn death threats against Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi on Thursday. The protestors marched from Congress Bhawan to Kharvel Nagar and filed a police complaint against BJP leaders for their alleged derogatory remarks and death threats targeting Rahul Gandhi.

In the complaint, Odisha Congress sought an FIR to be registered against Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, UP Minister Raghuraj Singh, BJP functionary Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad.

“Congress is reaching new heights after Rahul Gandhi became the Leader of Opposition. We as Opposition successfully stopped the launch of un-parliamentarian schemes like the UPSC lateral entry, the creamy layer in SC/ST quota and a lot more. Now, they are not able to push schemes that they wanted to, so now their Cabinet Ministers, MPs and MLAs, are making personal attacks on Rahul Gandhi which is not tolerable,” slammed Cuttack Barabati MLA Sofia Firdous.

She further added, “Personal attack is not tolerable in politics. But, they are giving death threats and announcing bounty to kill Rahul Gandhi. This is pure hate and we condemn it.”

On the other hand, BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of making anti-India statements during his travel abroad.

“Rahul Gandhi recently made statements on Sikhs when he was in America. Every time he goes abroad, he makes anti-India statements in global platforms. So, Congress should beg pardon from the people of India. Now, Congress is doing all these dramas only to save its face,” said Biranchi Narayan Tripathy, vice-president, state BJP.

Worth mentioning, Marwah recently issued threat and said, “Rahul you better behave, or you will meet the same fate as your grandmother.”

Similarly, Gaikwad announced a bounty of Rs 11 lakh for anyone who cut Rahul’s tongue. Bittu, on the other hand, called Rahul Gandhi the ‘number one terrorist of the country’.
