Thieves on prowl at Dhabaleswar shrine; loot incident caught on CCTV 

Thieves and snatchers are on the prowl at Baba Dhabaleswar shrine in Cuttack. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti on Monday, the shrine witnessed a huge rush of devotees. Taking advantage of the rush, looters were on the prowl stealing articles like wallets and cell phones from people.  

A loot incident was captured in a CCTV installed there. The CCTV footage showed a woman devotee detaining a thief and enquiring about a stolen article while an accomplice of the detainee was seen fleeing the scene.

Sources said that police have identified the detained person as a resident of Rajasthan. Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the theft and checking people at different places.     

Debadatta Baral, Additional Superintendent of Police, (Cuttack Rural), said that police in civil clothes have been deployed at the puja mandap. “We have got information about three cases of loot and thefts. All these cases are being investigated through CCTV footage and on-field probes. Three suspects are being interrogated. We are also probing if a gang is involved in loots.”
