Tension prevailed at Hatigoda Hospital in Balasore’s Jaleswar after a patient died in the medical while undergoing treatment on Friday night.

The family of the deceased alleged administration of wrong injection as the cause of his death.

The deceased has been identified as Gangadhara Mahanta (45) from Sankha Bhanga village under Jaleswar block in the district.

As per reports, Mahanta was admitted to the hospital following a complaint of abdomen pain on Thursday. However, his kin alleged that he was administered a wrong injection by the nurse following which he died on Friday night.

The family alleged that the nurse administered the injection after the doctor told her to do so without physically seeing the patient.

“My husband was suffering from abdomen pain and loose motion when I admitted him to the hospital. He was writhing in pain, so the doctor at the Jaleswar hospital asked me to take him to Cuttack for treatment. But I wanted to shift him in the morning as I could not have moved the patient in the night,” said, the wife of the deceased, Malati Mahanta.

“When his pain intensified in the night, I called the nurse who administered an injection to my husband after which he died,” she alleged.

Asked about the allegations, the doctor at the Jaleswar hospital said, “I prescribed an injection for stomach pain. I do not know how did the patient die.”
