Tension erupted on the campus of Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Autonomous College (BJB) in Bhubaneswar on Thursday following a protest by students against the picking up of a former student on Wednesday night. 

The former student has been identified as Smruti Ranjan Panda. 

According to the sources, on Wednesday, between 8 and 9 pm Smruti was present on the college premises when the police entered the campus and picked him up. 

After this incident, tension escalated among the students and they started a protest.

Speaking about the protest, a student alleged, “The former student came to the college to attend a function as a guest after completing his admission in a department. Later, the police arrived at the campus in plain clothes and took him. 

Due to the protest, all the classes are suspended and the students have locked the main gate of the college. Besides, the students have blocked the main road by burning tyres.

The reaction of the police on the incident is yet to be received.
