Today, on the occasion of Teachers' Day, two teachers from Odisha will receive the National Teachers’ Award for 2023 from President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi.

The teachers who will be felicitated at the Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital are Subash Chandra Rout, a retired Headmaster of Brundaban Government High School at Markandapur village in Jagatsinghpur district and Sashi Sekhar Karsharma, a Headmaster of Kenduapada Government High School under Bhadrak’s Bonth block.

Subash Chandra Rout, best known as Subash Sir, has long been retired but he finds it difficult to snap his relationship with the institution. He is still coming to the school and teaching students.

"I am happy that the government has selected me for such a prestigious award. During my service period, I always tried to ensure students’ success, develop the school and inculcate humanitarian ethics in my students,” said Rout.

“Subash Sir does not need any introduction in our district. In fact, he should have been felicitated with this award much earlier. We all are happy for this,” said Suchitra Bhuyan, a teacher.

Similarly, Sashi Sekhar Karsharma started his teaching career in 1994 and has since been discharging his duties sincerely for the last three decades. He is best known for teaching students in smart classrooms using modern technologies.

“I am very happy. In fact, any award inspires us to move forward. So the award will inspire me to work more dedicatedly for the schools and students,” said Karasharma.
