Once again questions are being raised over the construction works undertaken at various schools which have been transformed under the 5T initiative of the Odisha government. Such questions have now cropped up after several incidents of mishaps were reported in the past few weeks.

In the latest incident, a lady teacher sustained critical injuries after a large chunk of plaster from the ceiling fell on her at 5T Edabansha Padhihary High School at Astaranga in Puri district on Wednesday. The incident occurred when a group of teachers were having some discussion at the staff common room.

The lady teacher, Priyadarshini Senapati, sustained serious injury in her head. She was immediately shifted to Balikuda hospital. It is learnt that Senapati was later shifted to Bhubaneswar for further treatment.

Apart from Senapati, three other teachers, who were present at the spot, have also sustained multiple injuries in the incident.

It is pertinent to mention here that the students of Khatugaon 5T government school under Sundargarh’s Lahunipada block had a close shave after a portion of concrete fell from the roof of a classroom on July 5. The school was transformed just eight months back under the 5T initiative of the Odisha government, sources said.
