Tata Power faces criticism over reckless installation of electricity poles, locals gherao TPCODL off
Residents of Cuttack district's Salepur have voiced their strong displeasure towards the Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), accusing the company of careless installation of electricity poles in sensitive areas.
Irate locals took to the streets in protest against the electricity provider and threatened mass demonstrations against the alleged reckless installation of electricity poles in the vicinity. Local citizens staged protests at the Salepur Electricity Division Office, demanding an immediate resolution.
The protesters outside the Electricity Division Office, voicing their discontent over the construction of a 33kilo volt electric line stretching from Barabodia in Salepur to Nagaspur, notably passing through the renowned Mahapurush Achyutananda Peetha near ‘Dadhibaman Jew Temple’ premises.
Local Opposition to Pole Placement:
Locals have expressed opposition to placing these poles too close to the temple and on various non-governmental lands. In response to escalating tensions, departmental officials have pledged to address and rectify any faults within seven days.
Persistent Warnings from Residents:
However, residents caution that unless the poles are removed from these sensitive locations, further demonstrations will take place. They have underscored their intent to continue their protest if their concerns are not promptly addressed.
Reaction by Locals:
“Tata power is doing its extension work and has encroached into people’s private lands. They are installing electric poles in sensitive areas. Now, they have also taken over a ground where there is a gathering of devotees on festivals. Our demand is that the electric poles be installed in such manner that there is no harm caused to any public in the future,” alleged a local.
Likewise, another local complained, “Every year there is a gathering for Achyutananda Mahapurush’s religious program. Lakhs of people gather there on the occasion. But, Tata Power is installing electric poles on the ground that will cause danger to people during the gatherings.”
