A shocking and deeply disturbing incident has sent shockwaves through the Balanda area of Odisha’s Talcher, where a young man lost his life after being allegedly hit by a police vehicle. The deceased has been identified as Sushant Sahu, a resident of the locality.
The incident has sparked public outrage and led to a spontaneous protest, with locals blocking roads and demanding strict action against those responsible.
According to eyewitnesses and family members, the incident occurred early Tuesday morning when Sushant stepped out to go to the local market to buy groceries. While he was walking along the road, a vehicle belonging to the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) allegedly rammed into him at high speed, causing him to collapse on the spot. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries instantly.
What has intensified the public anger is the allegation that the police vehicle did not stop after the accident. The vehicle sped away after hitting him. They didn’t even pause to check whether he was alive or dead, alleged an emotional relative of the deceased.
The moment news of the fatal accident spread, residents of the area gathered at the site and staged a road blockade, demanding immediate arrest of the driver and justice for Sushant’s grieving family. Tensions flared as the crowd grew, raising slogans and questioning the accountability of those who are supposed to enforce the law.
The district administration rushed to the spot to pacify the protestors, assuring them of a thorough investigation.
However, till the last report came in, no formal statement was issued by the OISF or the local police station regarding the identity of the driver or the status of the fleeing vehicle.
