SUBHADRA Yojana: BJD demands Rs 50,000 in one or two installments for women; BJP responds
Politics surrounding the BJP government’s ambitious ‘Subhadra Yojana’ does not seem to end anytime soon. Attending the launch ceremony of ‘Subhadra Rath’, BJD Mayor Sulochana Das on Saturday took a sly dig at Mohan Majhi government for the Rs 5,000/half-yearly and Rs 10,000 annual money instead of Rs 50,000 as per BJP's promise.
In her remark, Mayor Das said, “If a woman gets Rs 50,000, she can invest it somewhere and make more money. So, I request the Odisha government to think about it because giving Rs 5,000 in installments will hardly be of any help to anyone.”
“A needy family will spend it on their daily expenses. So, it will be difficult for them to be self-independent until they get the Rs 50,000 in one or two installments,” Sulochana added.
Responding to the Mayor, Odisha Deputy CM Pravati Parida stated that the Rs 5,000 given to women is to pave the way for them to dream big. It is like an encouragement gift for women, the Deputy CM said.
“Maybe the Mayor has said something just for the sake of it. But, I think Rs 5,000 for every woman and our Rs 50,000 guarantee will help women dream big for Rs 5 lakhs. Such big dreams will them a fighters and move forward in life,” said Parida.
“Even the biggest brand like KFC was also started with Rs 5,000. A steel company was started with just Rs 6,000. So, anything can happen with the Rs 5,000. This is like building a foundation for them. It is like an encouragement gift to the women. All we want is to give hopes and dreams to women who could not even dare to dream earlier,” she added.
“In days to come, I promise that Odisha will be the No. 1 state in 'lakhpati didis',” the Deputy CM stated.
