Subhadra Yojana
The Odisha government on Thursday announced to launch a major review of the prestigious Subhadra scheme beneficiaries, with the aim of ensuring that only the eligible continue to receive benefits while ineligible names are weeded out.
The exercise comes after allegations that several undeserving individuals had managed to get enrolled under the scheme while genuine beneficiaries were left out.
According to official sources, the Women and Child Welfare Department has written to multiple departments seeking fresh verification of records. The Commerce and Transport Department has been asked to cross-check the names of beneficiaries owning four-wheelers using the vehicle database.
This is to confirm whether individuals who were excluded earlier on this ground were rightly removed, or if some were mistakenly deprived.
Furthermore, the Health Department has also been instructed to share a detailed list of deceased beneficiaries so that their names can be deleted from the official records. At the same time, the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has also been directed to provide data on dead beneficiaries and submit a re-verified list of women registered in the department who have sold paddy.
Officials said this multi-departmental scrutiny aims to restructure the list of Subhadra beneficiaries by adding the deserving women who were wrongly excluded and removing beneficiaries who are not eligible.
The government has emphasised that the scheme is intended to reach the genuinely needy, and this corrective step is vital to restore public trust and transparency.
With this move, thousands of beneficiaries across Odisha are expected to undergo verification once again, as the government attempts to plug loopholes and strengthen delivery under one of its flagship welfare initiatives.
