Scores of students near Palia village under Tihidi block in Bhadrak district expressed resentment over delay in the arrival of vehicles to carry them for a programme under the 'Yuba Odisha Nabin Odisha (Nua-O)' initiative. The students of BNMA College staged a protest by sitting on the road on Sunday.

As per reports, the Nua-O programme is being held at Ranital area in Bhadrak district. Students of various colleges in the district are taking part in the programme. Vehicles have been arranged by the district administration to carry the students to the meeting place. However, the students of BNMA College had to wait for long hours due to the delay in the arrival of buses.

Irate over this, the students staged a road blockade. Many students alleged that their examination is near, but they were forced to participate in the programme. They further alleged that the bus didn’t come even after waiting since 7 am in the morning today.

As per the allegation by the students, they should not have been disturbed during the time of examination and their valuable time was lost due to the delay in the arrival of the bus.

Tension prevailed in the area following the road blockade by the students. Road communication was completely halted till 11am along Chandbali road due to the protest by the students. Several vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road.

Later, Tihidi police arrived at the spot and pacified the students to withdraw their protest.

“A bus finally arrived to carry the students to the programme. Things are under control now,” said BNMA college Principal Amulya Parida.
