Tension prevailed at Emarti Devi Women’s Degree College in Cuttack on Wednesday. Lecturers and a group of girl students staged protests and accused the principal of misbehaviour.

The agitating students alleged that though they had taken up the issue with the district Collector, the latter did not pay heed to their complaint. They staged protests and demanded immediate transfer of the principal.

Student Sagarika Mohanty said, "The principal always misbehaves with us. When examinations are around the corner, our lecturers are driven out. When we will fail to perform, who will be responsible? We had apprised the Collector about the matter, but he dismissed our complaint as baseless.”

Student Yashmin Begum said, “We are being harassed and our History department is neglected. The college authorities do not allow lecturers to come to the college and as a result, our syllabus remains incomplete ahead of the examination. Our studies are affected when lecturers are transferred.”

Lecturer Lipika Behera alleged that she and her colleagues joined the government-aided college in 2017, but in violation of the government rule, their services have not been regularised even after six years of joining. “We are being harassed and terminated without any reason,” she fumed.

No comments have been received from the principal.
