Students fall ill after vaccination programme in Odisha school
In a worrying development, six students from Patangi Primary School in the Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district experienced illness following a routine vaccination programme. Two of the affected children are in a critical state.
The vaccinations were administered two days prior to the onset of symptoms, which necessitated immediate medical intervention. The children are currently receiving treatment at Simonbadi Hospital.
There is speculation about whether the vaccinations could be the cause of the children's symptoms. To investigate further, blood samples have been collected from the students and sent for analysis.
“She informed me that her head started reeling after she was administered an injection. I did not take her seriously. I thought she was just feeling dizzy and would heal soon. However, they informed me that my kids were serious,” alleged a guardian, Abraham Pradhan.
Speaking to OTV, Simonbadi PHC Dr. Avinash Mallick stated, “Everyone has different complaints. While some of them are in fever, some are experiencing chest pain and a headache. Most of them have a temperature, while the condition of one of the students is critical due to a breathing problem. All are under treatment. I don’t think this is due to vaccination, as they had been vaccinated on Wednesday. Usually, there will be a fever after vaccination. But, they will get well soon.”
