Student found dead in hostel room of private residential college in Keonjhar
A student was found dead late on Monday night in the hostel of Gayatri Residential College, a private institution located in Keonjhar town.
The deceased has been identified as Jaladhara Mahanta, son of Jagabandhu Mahanta of Tangarapada village under Patna police limits. Jaladhara was staying in the hostel while pursuing a summer course at the college.
According to sources, Jaladhara had dinner with his friends as usual around 10 PM and went to bed. Around 1 AM, his hostel mates tried to wake him up but found no response. The college authorities were immediately informed and rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The exact cause of death remains unknown. Family members have demanded a detailed investigation into the matter.Police have registered a case and started an inquiry.
“He called me at around 2 pm and said that he will come to house on May 8. I told him that I will come on May 9 and bring him back home as the summer course was scheduled to end on May 10. The I got a call from college officials that my son is not well. When I reached here, I found him dead,” said Jagabandhu Mahanta, father of the deceased student.
“As per the other students, he was feeling hot and sleeping on the bed close to the window. When he was called by the hostel mates he did not respond. We took him to the hospital immediately,” said Ajay Kumar Dash, a lecturer of the college.
