State-level Handloom Expo inaugurated in Puri

Ahead of Odisha’s mass festival Raja, a state-level Handloom Expo was inaugurated at Neelachal Urban Haat in Puri on Sunday. Managing president of Boyanika, Prakash Chandra Meher inaugurated the festival.

On this occasion, Meher said since the timing of the expo is the Raja festival; it would prove beneficial for both the customers and weavers. 

“Keeping Raja festival in view, we are offering 10 to 20 percent discount. Customers will be immensely benefited,” said Meher.

Boyanika’s general manager, Mili Samantaray said, “It is a good thing that our weavers have kept their tradition alive. Another important thing is that they are competing with the weavers of other states. They are constantly adding value to their products.”

The main objective of the expo is to showcase and sell different handloom products of the state. 

Of the 38 cooperative societies that have taken part in this exhibition, 33 are from Odisha and the rest five are from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir. 

Bandha textiles of Odisha, Jamdani and Tangail of West Bengal, Chikankari of Lucknow, Pashmina shawl of Jammu & Kashmir and textiles of Delhi and Haryana are available under one roof at the expo.
