State Bar Council appeals Sambalpur lawyers to join court proceedings

Even if the Supreme Court has said no to the demand of Sambalpur lawyers who have been seeking a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court in the district, it appears that lawyers are still sticking to their demands. That’s why they are yet to join court proceeding. 

The State Bar Association, meanwhile, called upon lawyers to resume court work. 

Justice without lawyers is never possible. They play an important part in the administration of justice. Court work has been hampered badly as lawyers are not joining court proceedings. As a result, common people are facing lots of problem. Keeping this in mind, the State Bar Council has appealed the lawyers to join duty.

Jajati Keshari Samantasinhar, Secretary of State Bar Council said, “Bar Council of India had suspended some of the advocates of Sambalpur districts for violent protest in support of their demand. Later, it withdrew its decision allowing lawyers to attend court proceeding barring only 54 advocates. However, it is unfortunate that others are yet to join court proceedings.”

He went on to add: “They should attend the court proceeding without delay. Bar Council of India is keeping a tab on it. It will take further action in this regard.”

On the other hand, the State Bar Council has no idea about three-member led Fact Finding Team appointed by Bar Council of India. 

It is learnt that Bar Council of India is likely to take action against 54 lawyers after the team submits its report.

Meanwhile, a 12-member Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) team led by Parliamentarian Suresh Pujari paid a visit to lawyers at Sambalpur jail on Tuesday.

“We have urged the district administration not to arrest lawyers any more”, Pujari told the media after meeting lawyers who were held for intensifying agitation over setting up of a High Court bench in Sambalpur.
