Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the President of Singapore, is scheduled to arrive in Odisha on a two-day visit to the State starting January 18, an official source said on Monday.
The President’s visit marks the completion of 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, and a celebration is scheduled to be held.
During his official stay in Odisha, President Shanmugaratnam is anticipated to formalise several bilateral agreements, focusing primarily on the petrochemical and green energy sectors. These accords are aimed at bolstering cooperation and attracting further investment between the two nations within these industries.
Odisha is also preparing to host the inaugural edition of Utkarsh Odisha on January 28 and January 29, with Singapore participating as the partner country. Singapore would be the first country partner for Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave 2025.
This collaboration underscores the strengthening relationship between the state of Odisha and Singapore.
Worth mentioning, the previous year on December 10, Singapore High Commissioner Simon Wong engaged in discussions with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan to explore matters of mutual interest.
The mega-event aims to boost the financial prowess of the state and position it as a key destination for investments of both regional and foreign nature.
Odisha CM, during his visit to Singapore in November last year, requested the presence of the island country’s president in Odisha, which has now been accepted.
