PM Modi welcoming Singapore President
Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the President of Singapore, will commence his two-day visit to Odisha tomorrow (Friday, January 17). His arrival is scheduled for 11.45 AM at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar, where he will be officially welcomed.
In the afternoon at around 2.00 PM, President Shanmugaratnam is set to meet Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to explore the avenues for cooperation between Singapore and the State.
At 4.00 PM, the President is slated to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State government at the World Skill Centre (WSC) in Bhubaneswar, highlighting joint skills development initiatives. The collaboration between Singapore and Odisha is set to be a focal point of his engagements.
On October 18, the President will visit Raghurajpur Heritage Village, known for its traditional Pattachitra art. His itinerary also includes a tour of the historic Sun Temple (Black Pagoda) in Konark, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
President Shanmugaratnam is also to visit Bharat Biotech’s vaccine production centre in Andharua locality of Bhubaneswar, later in the afternoon, where discussions with officials are expected.
Notably, prior to his visit to Odisha, the Singapore President was ceremoniously received at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today. His visit marks the completion of 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore.
Odisha is also preparing to host the inaugural edition of Utkarsh Odisha on January 28 and January 29, with Singapore participating as the partner country. Singapore would be the first country partner for Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave 2025.
