In a major announcement, the authorities on Friday announced for the closure of Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) for the visitors from June 12, 2024. In a notice issued by the Field Director, STR Prakash Chandra Gogineni the Tiger Reserve will be out of bounds for tourists/ visitors tentatively till September 30.

The decision for the closure of Similipal Tiger Reserve for the visitors is in accordance with the regular management practice of the Tiger Reserve.

“The exact date of reopening will be notified and published in daily newspapers,” the official notice read.

However, the eco-tourism complex- Jamuani, Gurudia, Kumari, Barehipani and Ramtirtha shall remain open for the visitors. It is pertinent to mention here that usually the Similipal Tiger Reserve remains closed for the visitors for a period of four months during the monsoon season.

Similipal is home to wide range of flora and fauna which represent a link between two biodiversity hot spots of the country - the Sub-Himalayayan North-East India and the Western Ghats in the South.
