Tension erupted at Sibulapasi village under Kamakhyanagar Police limits in Dhenkanal on Monday after some miscreants allegedly smeared the statues of deities and the walls of Baba Sapenswar Shiva temple with cow dung and soil.

The incident allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of the villagers who expressed their anger over it. The temple trust committee formed by the Endowment department condemned the incident defiling the sanctity of the temple.
The temple was recently renovated under the 5T initiative, sources said.

As per reports, the facade of the temple, the places around the statutes of the deities, side deities, and some parts of the temple walls have been pasted with cow dung and soil.

Temple priest Biswamohan Panda said that when he came in the morning to worship, he spotted cow dung and soil smeared all over the temple. “I told about it to the members of the temple trust committee and they have filed a complaint at the police station,” he lamented.

Niranjan Jena, the treasurer of the temple trust, said, "The temple was renovated at a cost of Rs 4 lakh which was given by the 5T chairperson. The work was completed four days ago.”
