People in Tamando area of Bhubaneswar are reportedly in jitters after a series of burglaries were reported from four flats of some apartments on Tuesday night. Miscreants have allegedly decamped with gold jewellery worth over Rs 12 lakh, apart from other valuables when the occupants were away.
Such incidents have thrown up challenges to the Commissionerate Police despite its night patrolling. Four loot incidents were reported from Kendriya Vihar Apartment in Tamando on Tuesday night.
Reports said, the thieves broke into four flats of the Kendriya Vihar Apartment after breaking the locks and then reportedly decamped with valuables, cash, and gold jewellery. The owners of the flats were not present during the time.
Following complaints, Tamando Police has started an investigation into the matter.
A house owner, said, “There are 256 flats in the apartments spread over 5 acres. There are boundary walls. One side is poorly lit. We are not sure if the thieves have come through the main gate or by scaling the boundary wall.”
According to other residents, a few days ago, the number of security guards deployed at the apartments was reduced. It is alleged that taking advantage of poor vigilance, the miscreants managed to decamp with the valuables. They appealed to the police to crack the loot incidents as soon as possible.
“If loot incidents happen in the apartments, there is no use of living in apartments. Why there will be security lapses. Why security guards should look the other way without checking the entry and exit of the people,” another flat owner lamented.
Other house owners and residents have demanded that police patrolling should be intensified in the area.
It may be noted here that a few days ago, miscreants had looted four flats in the Infocity area.
No comments have been received from the police.
