Senior BJP leader Karendra Majhi passes away at 52; Odisha CM, other leaders pay tribute
Former Baliguda MLA and senior BJP leader Karendra Majhi passed away on Sunday night at the age of 52. He breathed his last at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and State BJP chief Manmohan Samal visited the hospital to pay their final respects.
In his message on social media platform X, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi wrote, “I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear about the demise of our party's senior leader and former Baliguda legislator, Karendra Majhi. His departure is an irreparable loss for all of us. I convey my condolences to the bereaved family and pray to Lord Shri Jagannath for the peace of the departed soul. Om Shanti.”
He also offered floral tributes to the mortal remains of late BJP leader Karendra Majhi.
Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal expressed deep grief at the passing of Karendra Majhi. He said, “He was elected as an MLA twice. Coming from a humble background, he rose to become an extraordinary personality. His loss is irreplaceable. He was a prominent leader in Kandhamal and Baliguda, always representing the interests of the people.”
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena also conveyed his condolences, saying, “His passing is an irreparable loss. I pray for eternal peace of his soul and strength for his family to overcome this difficult time.”
Karendra Majhi was first elected to the Odisha Assembly from Baliguda on a BJP ticket in 2004 and was re-elected in 2009. Over the years, he earned recognition as a respected tribal leader from Kandhamal district, known for his grassroots connections and strong representation of people’s issues.
