The followers of self-proclaimed Godman, Sarathi Baba also known as Santosh Raul observed Janmashtami and Nandotsav at his ashram in Kendrapara’s Barimula.

Janmashtami celebrations saw Yajnya, puja, and spiritual programme at the ashram and the worship of Lord Krishna along with Sarathi Baba’s picture.

“When Sarathi Baba was at the Ashram, he observed Janmashtami in a grand manner which included his preaching, societal and environmental works like plantation and blood donation drives,” said a follower of Sarathi Baba at Barimula Ashram.

“Lord Krishna was born in the dead of the night. The news of his birth spread only when the day broke. So as per the Vaishnav religion, we are celebrating Nadotsav. We are worshipping Lord Krishna and Mahaprabhu Sarathi today,” said a follower of Sarathi Baba.

Another follower of Sarathi said, “We loved him (Sarathi) and will continue to love him. Only we know what we get from the love of Sarathi Baba, because we followed him religiously.”

Not only in Barimula, but his followers at Paradip celebrated Janmashtami in the port city as well.

“Auspicious Nandotsav was celebrated today by the Sarathi Parivar of Paradip. We worship Lord Krishna on this day and take this opportunity to distribute food items and ration to the needy & elderly people in our area,” said a Sarathi Baba follower in Paradip.

Around four years after he was arrested on August 7, 2015, the Orissa High Court granted bail to the self-styled godman Sarathi in July 2019 in a case registered by the Crime Branch of Odisha Police.
