CCTV footage of the theft in Capital Hospital
In a major breach, miscreants reportedly managed to steal medical instruments worth around Rs 60 lakh from the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night. With the theft raising many concerns, some security guards and sweepers are suspected to be involved in it.
The theft has been captured in the CCTV cameras of the hospital. A police complaint in this regard was filed late Tuesday night after the incident came to light. Police have started an investigation into the incident on the basis of the CCTV footage.
Speaking to the media, the Director of Capital Hospital, Dr Laxmidhar Sahu confirmed the theft, saying, "Some unused and new instruments, meant for various pathological tests, were stocked for installation in a laboratory. The new instruments are worth around Rs 50-60 lakh. Most instruments were mainly meant for blood, sputum, dengue, and malaria tests.”
The Capital Hospital director further stated that on checking the CCTV footage, those who had stolen the instruments appeared to be uniform-wearing employees. They had carried the instruments out of the hospital after packing them in sacks while security guards seemed to be involved in the matter.”
The authorities of the agency who supplied the instruments have been intimated to identify the uniform-wearing people and taken disciplinary action, he added.
“We have also informed the police about the theft,” Sahu said.
As per sources, the Commissionerate Police has started an investigation into the theft and identified the accused.
