Once considered the most powerful during the BJD regime, VK Pandian on Sunday retired from active politics following the ruling party's poll debacle. VK Pandian, once a prominent figure during the BJD regime, retired from politics after the party's electoral loss.

Subsequently, security measures including barricades at his Bhubaneswar residence were dismantled. The barricades that were installed in front of the residence of the bureaucrat-turned-politician in Bhubaneswar have been removed.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pandian is accused of enjoying several benefits without holding any key post and misusing power. A temporary aid post was earlier set up in front of Pandian's residence in the Capital city. A lot of security personnel guarded the residence round-the-clock.

Sources said an electronic barricade was also set up there. Such provisions were made for the security of Pandian by Odisha Police. Not only this, escort vehicles were also provided during Pandian's movement in different parts of the city and state.

Pandian was earlier appointed 5T chairman by BJD government. However, after BJD's drubbing defeat in the recently concluded elections, all such provisions have been withdrawn.

In a video statement, Pandian on Sunday retired from active politics and sought apology from the BJD workers.
