The Works department on Saturday announced that some major projects will be taken up in the financial year 2023-24. The department has a total budget of Rs 9,133 crore for the fiscal, a rise of nine per cent from last year’s budget.
The announcement was made by PWD Secretary Vir Vikram Yadav at a press conference in Bhubaneswar. “Under State sector road development programme, we have an allocation of Rs 4,600 crore this year. This will be used in improving 3000 km of roads and nine major bridges,” he said.
“The important projects that the Works department will take up this year are six-laning of Cuttack ring road, developing of Taldanda canal road in Cuttack, four-laning of Cuttack-Paradip road, four-laning of Kapilprasad-Jatni road in Bhubaneswar, more bridges on Kathajodi river at Trishulia, on Baitarani river at Chandbali, and on Brahmani river at Anandpur. Construction of a six-lane road along Daya west canal in Bhubaneswar city will also be taken up in 2023-24,” Yadav said.
“The department has plans to construct ring roads around Berhampur, Bolangir, Sambalpur, and other places of the State,” he added.
In another major announcement, Yadav said that the government is planning to launch the second phase of the Biju Expressway connecting Berhampur to Jeypore at an approximate cost of Rs 6000 crore. Land acquisition for the project has already been started.
