Seven more people were found positive for Scrub Typhus infection in Odisha’s Sundargarh district in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the district to 200, a health official said on Wednesday.

Several samples were tested in the past 24 hours, of which seven were found positive, Sundargarh Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Kanhu Charan Nayak said.

“With the detection of the fresh seven cases, the Scrub Typhus tally in the district has increased to 200,” Nayak added.
Meanwhile, the district administration has swung into action and taking appropriate steps to sensitise people at the gram panchayat level. The district collector earlier had a virtual meeting with block development officials, tehsildars and doctors in the district.

Notably, a special medical team has been sent to the Sundargarh and Bargarh districts in view of the rising cases.

A Joint Director and an epidemiologist have also been sent to both districts to investigate the alleged death of people after getting infected by scrub typhus.
