Scrub Typhus

Scrub Typhus is suspected to have claimed the life of another person in Odisha, sparking widespread panic among the locals. Among fatalities in Bargarh and other districts, a new death has been reported from Subarnapur district.

The deceased was undergoing treatment at a private nursing home in Burla, sources said. Despite being provided with the best of treatment for 11 days, he succumbed to the deadly disease on Friday, a day after Diwali, sources said.

Scrub Typhus, transmitted through bites from infected mites, needs serious awareness campaigns and efforts to tackle the disease across all blocks and panchayats. The symptoms of the disease typically include fever, chills, headache and body aches.

Several cases of scrub typhus were detected in the month of September with the death of at least four people. The sudden resurge of the disease has spread panic in the area, putting health authorities on their toes.

On the other hand, locals expressed outrage and raised questions over the seriousness of the government and the alertness of the Health department.
